{review of this year's resolutions and a preview of 2014's resolutions}

Before I made my list of resolutions for this year, I thought I would go back and read an old list. Here are my resolutions from last year. As a recap, I had seven resolutions:
1) Update the blog more frequently
2) Workout regularly
3) Mail cards for special occasions on time
4) Read more for pleasure
5) DATE NIGHT!!!
6) CRAFT! CRAFT! CRAFT!
7) Stay organized

The funny thing is that many of these are going to be the same for next year. I'm not saying I failed at my goals for this year, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Updating the blog regularly. It took me half a year, but I finally started to update the blog regularly in June. I have been good ever since then. I am hoping to keep this up. I will not need to include this for next year :)

Working out regularly...that's a tough one. I was good with this, then I got pneumonia and everything went downhill. I never found my way back up. I will be including this again for next year. This time I need to stick with it.

Mailing cards on time for special occasions--not good. I was still horrible with this in 2013. I am including this again for next year. I am starting off on the right foot, because I mailed two cards this AM for birthdays that are next week. Yay!

Reading more for pleasure. I did okay with this one compared to the past. I read more than just books related to teaching. My goal for next year will be to read 25 books. That will include both those read for work-related items and also those read for fun. I plan to keep track of those and keep myself accountable with the blog.

Date nights. Well, I don't really know how we did on that front. Now that Ryan has started the MBA program, there isn't a lot of time for date nights. I think we have been doing a better job of making time for one another after the kids are in bed. Laundry can wait! I will include this one on the list once again.

Crafting. I think I did quite a bit of crafty things this year. I plan to keep Crafty Sunday going, so I don't think I need to include this on my list. Starting to use Project Life will also help with this. I am sure there will be a lot of updates about this. I may even do a once a week update with Project Life.

Staying organized. This is one where I think I'm doing better, but it definitely needs to stay on the list for next year. I want to start the year with everything organized, and then my goal will be to keep it that way. I was happy to see that the garage was the big area where I wanted to get things together. That was accomplished.

So what list does that leave me with for next year?

Resolutions for 2014
1. Workout regularly
2. Mail cards on time for special occasions
3. Read at least 25 books
4. Go on date nights
5. Stay organized

The only other thing I want to add to this list is actually the most important one. It is to spend more time with the kids. I want to learn to let things (dishes, laundry, vacuuming) wait. Who cares? I want to make sure that I spend every second I can with the kiddos. They are my number one priority. And that's the way it should be...

Happy New Year's Eve!

{New Year's Eve prep}

Tomorrow is already New Year's Eve. I can't believe it. We are celebrating this year at home, and we are keeping it quiet. Aunt Lexis, Uncle Danny, and Aunt Samantha will be joining us. The kiddos are excited to try to stay up until midnight. We will see :) Last year Caden did make it until 11:30, but Lilli was out a long time before that. I am trying to plan some fun activities for them. One thing I know I am going to do is have them answer some time capsule questions:

I found the link to this file on a website called Sassy Style. I am planning to include this in my Project Life album. I am switching to this style of scrapping. My hope is that I will be able to accomplish capturing more memories in less time. Don't get me wrong--I LOVE scrapping, but I am just too busy to keep up with it. This will allow me to record more and keep my sanity :) Both of those are very good things.

I am contemplating my New Year's Resolutions for this coming year. I will let you in on those soon!

Until later!

{divide + conquer, Crafty Sunday, special blankets}

Ryan and I both had things we needed to do today, so we asked the kids to choose what they wanted to do. Lilli wanted to help Dada, and Caden wanted to hang with me. These errands weren't anything fun, but it is nice to have some one on one time with the kiddos. This means that we each had our own lunch dates. We sent each other pics:

We were able to get a lot done, but it always seems like there is more to do :)

Crafty Sunday Update

Yes, Crafty Sunday does still exist. I am currently working on a cross stitch project. This is something new to me, but I found something that someone I know would LOVE. I can't show pics now, but I will later. It is going to be a surprise for this person :)

I was inspired by the beautiful blankets that my Aunt Diane made for the kids. I can't even begin to imagine how long these took to make. The kids really love them. Here they are after we opened the package:

Lilli was so excited that she even brought it to the store with us:

Here are some close-up shots of the blankets:

{skiing...round 2}

When Ryan and Caden decided they were going skiing again this morning with Bumpah; Lilli (surprisingly) wanted to go as well. Yes, I've been skiing before, but it wasn't the most relaxing thing I've ever done. Ryan said he and Bumpah could take Lilli along with them, but I decided I should go as well. So we had an impromptu family skiing trip! Lilli was VERY excited. Here she is with Bumpah when we got there:

She also took time to hug a tree:
Bumpah said that tree will grow two feet taller than the others from the love :)

There was a bit of a wait to get everything we needed (it is a small place only open on the weekends), but once we started going the kids had a BLAST! Here is a shot from when we were still waiting:

Overall, I must admit that I had a great time, too. I didn't leave the bunny hill, but it was still fun. Ryan took the kids down a real hill two times each. I wasn't sure what Lilli reaction would be after trying the big hill with Dada, but I think she liked it. You be the judge:

Take a look at Caden going down the hill with Dada:

I have two brave kids!

Here are some more pics:
How cute are they?

And what do you do when you are done skiing? Why drink hot cocoa, of course!
My cute little gnome.
Caden is so happy about the whipped cream!
We had a wonderful day, and I even admitted to Ryan that I would go again :)

Until later!

{Caden the skiing kid!}

Ryan has been dreaming about taking Caden skiing for a long time. Yesterday was finally the day. We didn't have any plans, and the weather wasn't too bad. I was nervous that Caden might not like it, because I knew that would bum Ryan out. Well...he LOVED it. He was also happy that Bumpah went with them. It was a guys' day out! Check out these pics:
So much cuteness!

I love the look on his face.

He was even able to use the rope tow on his own eventually:

Ryan said he did need help a few times, but our boy is pretty stubborn and likes doing things on his own :)

This is one of my favorite pics.
Check out this big boy!

Love the smile on his face:

This is definitely my favorite pic from the day:
Love it!

{presents, presents everywhere!}

The children received so many wonderful gifts this year. They were spoiled, but hopefully grateful. The Christmas festivities started at our house. Look at those full stockings:

The kids were pretty excited to see them:
They are both wearing pj's from Uncle Danny and Aunt Samantha.
We had great stocking stuffers this year. Ryan and the kids got me a ton of fondant tools. I am excited to try them. We then moved on to look under the tree. Caden was very excited to get his gift from Santa. They always know which gift is from Santa, because it is wrapped in Santa paper :)

Both kiddos got what they asked for from Santa. Caden wanted a Power Rangers Red Ranger Morpher, and Lilli wanted a talking baby. Here is the talking baby:
Lilli decided she was too warm, so she is now wearing her undershirt and no pj top. Opening presents is hard work!
 Here is Caden opening the morpher:

They received many other things about which they were pretty excited. Lilli's big gift this year was a bike. She had to try it out right away:
There is even a seat for her baby on the back!
Here is a better shot to see the bike:
See the baby in the back?
Caden got this present from Lilli. He picked out some Polly Pocket dolls for her.

He opened it right away to try it out:

I love this pic. You can see Lilli opening other presents while wearing the glass (really plastic) slippers she received from Grammy. She thinks these shoes are awesome!

You can see Caden's big gift in this pic. He received a telescope and a microscope (in one kit). He put together the telescope that morning:

Of course we couldn't leave out the pooches. Here is Lilli giving Minka her presents. She also opened them for her :) Bentley had presents as well, of course. She decided he did not want his pic taken.

Lilli also loved clothes. I know, it's weird for a three year old. Remember she is a little diva? Here she is modeling the outfit from Grammy (complete with shoes):

After we finished opening presents at our house, we headed over to Grandma and Bumpah's house. Caden and Lilli were really excited to see Andrew and Baby William:

They also were excited to open more presents, of course:

Lilli got a Lalaloopsy doll. She will fit very well on the back of her Lalaloopsy bike:

We also had a wonderful lunch. After a little bit of playing, we headed back home to veg for awhile. Both kids fell asleep in the car. I carried Lilli upstairs and she woke up, so I decided to snuggle with her for a little bit in our room. Ryan woke us up an hour and a half later :) It was a great day and a wonderful Christmas!

Until later!

{Christmas Eve festivities}

We had a wonderful evening. I LOVE this time of the year. The special decorations help. Here are the stockings that Grammy made for us:
The kids love looking at them.

Danny and Samantha came over early and we had our Christmas with them. The children were spoiled as usual :)

Lilli especially loved her My Little Pony toys.
Caden was thrilled with the Ninja Turtle punching bag :)
By the time everyone came over, Lilli was beyond tired. She was too excited to take a nap today, so it all caught up to her. Here she is snuggling with Grandma on the couch:

3 minutes later:

It was a very smooth evening. We put together all of the food ahead of time, so by the time everyone got here we didn't need to spend anymore time in the kitchen.

For something different, I made some sugar cookie cut-outs and decorated them with royal icing so the kids could color them with food grade markers. They liked it:
Lilli worked on a special cookie to leave for Santa.

Andrew made a cookie when he got here, too. All the kids made a cookie for Santa, I believe. Mine each ate a cookie and made one for Santa.

We always have to have photo time! Aunt Linda found some photo booth props, and we had a great time with those:
Even Minka joined in on the fun:
Doesn't she look so smart?!
We also exchanged gifts from our gift exchange, but that was minor in the whole evening. The kids will remember playing together and decorating cookies more than anything else. And that's the way it should be :)

Until later!
