Last Ditch Efforts!

Sorry for the lack of a post last night. Since I am back to school with students on Tuesday, I am frantically trying to get everything accomplished that I thought I would before school starts. It looks like that isn't going to happen. I am happy to report that my scrapping area in the office is pretty much set up. It is at least usable. I plan to finish her off tomorrow.

I also need to print my first day handouts for the students. I will most likely be heading into school for a couple of hours tomorrow some time.

Where did the summer go?

I will post extra pics later!

Growing up too fast

I have decided that Caden is growing up too fast. He started standing up on his own last weekend. He takes his hands off of the coffee table and just stands there. After 5-10 seconds he very slowly and smoothly puts his hands back on the table. Here is a shot that Andrea got of him while we were in Toledo.

He also looks like he is starting to try to stand from a seated position. I think it will be sometime in September that he starts walking...unfortunately. I'm not ready!

He also can climb up the stairs now with no help. I wanted to get a video of it today, but of course he wouldn't do it with the video camera on. I will try again tomorrow. He doesn't get the coming back down the stairs yet. We are working with him on it so that he learns to back down the stairs.

He has been very tired the last few days once it hits around 6 pm. He hasn't been sleeping well at night because of teething. Ryan and I now understand the pain of having a teething child. It's not that he is waking up screaming; it is just that he keeps waking up. Any suggestions?

He is loving chewing with his new teeth. Here he is chowing down on a piece of crusty bread last night.

I also noticed that he was gritting his teeth. I tried to stop him, but Ryan reminded me that since his teeth are new to him he is just playing. He only did it a few times.

I will leave you with a pic of him from tonight. Happy little boy.

Carb Man

We discovered yesterday that Caden really likes pasta. He chowed down around 2 cups of macaroni noodles for dinner. He shoveled them in as fast as we could get them in front of him. Here he is at work:

Here he is eating some more from tonight. Check out the noodle mid air.

We also found it funny to see that he doesn't like his feet touching the grass. He kept pulling his legs back up when we tried to put them down. Eventually he was okay with it, but there was awhile where he wouldn't let his feet touch. Too funny.

Back at Home

Just a quick post to say we safely returned home around 6 pm. Caden did very well until the last 30 minutes. Then he hit major breakdown point. He just wanted out of the car seat. It was sad, but I didn't want to stop to calm him down just to put him back in the seat. He was happy to get home and see his daddy. I was happy to see Ryan too. Off to school tomorrow!

Piano and the Hulk

Lunch was very good at Bob Evans today. Caden was asleep when we first got there. My dad held the car seat on his lap most of the time while he slept. It was cute. Here is a pic of Andrea (Amma) admiring him shortly before he woke up:

We then went to Perrysburg after we ate to spend a little more time with the family. Danny also spent some time with one of the kittens they have. It is only two weeks old.

After that we went back to Dad and Andrea's. While there we discovered that Caden loves the piano. Here we are having a jam session.

I am disappointed I couldn't bring it home this time. I am hoping I can get it before Christmas. I would love to be able to play.

We had dinner at the Beirut with Aunt Chris, Uncle Johnny, Aunt Ann, Andrea, Jacob, and Grandma. Caden was out when we got there. He slept on Danny for quite a while.

The food was very good. Caden enjoyed eating a lemon.

He even went to Aunt Ann.

The highlight after dinner was seeing the Hulk. I'm not too sure why the sculpture was in the parking lot across the street from the restaurant, but we couldn't miss the photo op!

We are leaving tomorrow. We are meeting Dad, Andrea, and Steph for breakfast at 10, and then we will be heading for home.

Have a great night!

Toledo

Danny, Caden, and I safely arrived in Toledo. We left at 5:09 am. We had a last minute diaper change, otherwise I think we would have pulled out right at 5:00 am as planned. We pulled into Chicago around 7:45 am to have coffee with Jaime and Aurora at a coffee house. It was nice. We rolled into Toledo around 2:45. Not too bad. I also discovered that Caden likes french fries.

We went to Perrysburg to visit with Grandpa, Aunt Diane, and Jim. Caden examined Grandpa pretty closely. He liked his goatee.

We will be seeing them again tomorrow. We are meeting in Perrysburg at 11:30 so we can see JJ. Then we are heading out to lunch.

Then we were off to see everyone at Dad's. We saw Dad, Andrea, Andy, Laura, CJ, Stephanie, and Anna. Caden seemed to have a nice time. He especially loved playing with the remote controls. Here are some pics:

We are now back at Grandma's. I am stealing the internet from the neighbors. If I sit on her bed I can pick up the signal. As soon as Caden is in bed, Aunt Ann is coming over to play Shanghai. She also found out that I am not eating any candy or junk food except her cake. She is currently baking a cake. Oh darn! :) Guess I will have to eat me some cake!

Have a nice night!

Busy Day

Today is all about getting ready to go to Toledo. There are quite a few things I need to accomplish before we hit the road tomorrow bright and early.

List of things to do:
1. Pick up Caden's 9 month pics
2. Finish laundry
3. Wash the sheets in the guest bedroom
4. Pick up RX refill from Target and buy a new shower liner
5. Put scrapping items in the office (the table is currently in the dining room)
6. Pack
7. Make dinner
8. Meet with Kelly (Caden's Wednesday and every other Friday sitter) to go over the paperwork

I know there are other things I need to do, but I will be lucky if I get all of this accomplished.

Caden is snoozing right now, so I am going to jump in the shower and get as much done at the house as I can. Then I'm off!

Why does it seem like there is never enough time?

Here is the pic of the finished invite that I promised. All I need to do is print the details, stick them in, and mail them out! Do you like the brown writing on the front instead of the green? I think it appears better. I also did decide to go with the shadowed cupcake for the inside.

If you notice to the right of the posting area there is a section where you can enter your email address. If you do this, it will send my new postings right to your email. Sign up if you would like. The one thing to remember is that if you want to comment, do not just reply to the email. This will not truly reply to the post. You will go to the blog, and then scroll to the bottom of the post you would like to comment on. Then you click on the comment button. Hope that clears up the confusion!

I will leave you with a pic a Caden playing with his piggy bank this morning. He is determined that he will be able ot get a coin in by himself. He is not quite there yet.

Andrew update and invites finished

This will be a quick update since I am exhausted. It is ten to midnight and I am still awake. This is unheard of!

Andrew was doing well when we left. The swelling has started, of course, but that is normal. The saddest thing was that his eyes are swollen completely shut, so he is probably so confused. Here is a pic that Ryan shot with my phone.

Poor little guy. He is doing well. He is right on with all that should be happening at this point. Like I said before, check the CaringBridge website that Cara set up. She updates whenever anything happens. Plus she adds a pic almost every time.

We got back to Oshkosh around 5:45 tonight. The dogs were happy to see us. We took advantage of the beautiful weather and took them for a nice walk. I brought a blanket for Caden since it was a little breezy. Even with his feet covered, he still managed to prop them up on top of the stroller.

Little weirdo!

The reason I stayed up so late is because I was bound and determined to finish his birthday invitations. Mission accomplished! The only thing I need to do is print the stickers that will go inside with all of the information about the party. I am waiting to do that until a little closer to the date. I would hate to print and stick them all in to find out that I need to switch the date for some reason. I will put a pic on tomorrow's post of the finished product.

Have a nice night!

Andrew did awesome!

Andrew did awesome today. I am sorry that I couldn't update sooner. The surgery did not take as long as they thought it would. We stayed at the hospital until we were able to see the little guy. I was able to get a shot of him with my phone. Here it is:

He was still snoozing when we got into the room. It is amazing how different he already looks. Just go back and compare today's pic with yesterday's of the boys. It is unbelievable!

We are staying over one more night in Madison so we can go and see Andrew, Cara, and Jordon one more time tomorrow. He will still be in the hospital for awhile. Don't forget that you can check out his CaringBridge website that Cara set up. She has done a great job keeping it updated.

Have a nice night!

Drew's surgery

Since so many people have been asking me about Drew's surgery, I talked with Cara and decided to post the information on the blog. Drew will be having surgery tomorrow morning in Madison. Here is information from an email that Cara sent out:

"Andrew's CT scan and pre-op appointments are set for August 13th and his surgery is set for August 18th. We will be here in Madison at American Family Children's hospital. He will be the first surgery of the day starting at about 7am. We have a team of a Pediatric Neurosurgeron and a Pediatric Plastic Surgeon. The surgery is 6-7 hours long. We are expecting a 2 day stay in ICU and a 5-7 day hospital stay total. I will be staying at the hospital the entire time, unfortunately they only let 1 parent stay overnight.
For the surgery he will have a zigzag incision from ear to ear. First they remove and reform the forehead, then they do the same for the brow ridge. All the screws and plates are disolvable, they disappear in about a year. His stiches are disolvable as well so we don't have to go back for removal. There is little chance of developmental delay from the surgery or the anesthesia. The main concern is blood loss, we know he will have to have a transfusion. If anyone has questions, just let us know. We will be sending e-mail and Facebook updates during the hospital stay."

Cara set up a CaringBridge website for Drew. Here is the information she sent out about that:

Dear Family and Friends,
To keep you up to date on Andrew and his upcoming surgery, I created a CaringBridge website. You can follow Andrew’s progress and show your support. We will be updatng the website with journals and pictures up to and through his surgery, and through his recovery.
Visit Andrew’s website in two easy ways:

1. Visit the CaringBridge website by clicking the link below.
http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/andrewbricco

2. Enter the website name, andrewbricco, at www.CaringBridge.org.
When you visit you’ll be asked to log in, because I’ve chosen to keep the site private.
Show your support for Andrew
• Visit and keep up to date.
• Leave a message in the guestbook.
• Receive e-mail notifications when the journal is updated.
Thank you.
Cara

Ryan, Caden, and I headed to Madison tonight so that we could be at the hospital right away in the morning. Here is a cute pic of the cousins bonding tonight. Actually, Caden had just ripped Drew's nuk out and was attempting to put it back in. He missed:

Here is another cute one.

I will also keep my blog updated about Drew's progress, but make sure to sign up for the CaringBridge emails, too.

Have a good night!

Pencils! Pencils! Pencils!

I'm a teacher, so of course I LOVE free stuff. I am loving it that Sam (Yes, Danny's Sam) gave me a mondo box of pencils for my classroom. I plan to take them in this week. Look at this box!

I decided I would let Caden take a look at it. He LOVED them. He opened the box, closed it, grabbed pencils by the handful...it was a good time. Don't worry. I closely supervised him so he wouldn't poke out an eye. He left me quite a mess, but he had a lot of fun.

Have a great week!

Moving of the screen and visitors

I am happy that Ryan and Dick were able to switch around the lower level today. Now the screen is on the wall on the outside of Danny's room. When it was still on the back wall you couldn't really sit on the couch and watch TV. Ryan is currently working on getting all of the wiring and the speakers switched around. I know it is a huge pain in the butt, but it had to be moved since we got the new couch. I appreciate it! Caden even helped out for a little while. Here he is peeking up from the little enclosure they made to keep him corralled.

Sara, Mike, and Maddie are staying the night tonight. They got into town this afternoon so that they could attend a friend's wedding reception. It will be a short visit since they will be leaving tomorrow early afternoon. Caden had fun playing with Maddie today. He was pretty good about sharing his toys when he wasn't ripping the nuk out of her mouth! We will have to work on that.

I also started to organize the scrapping area of the office downstairs in the basement. Since school starts in a week from Tuesday, I want to move all of my scrapping things back into the office downstairs. Before I move it I want it all to be organized. That will take me a few hours tomorrow as well I think.

Have a good night!

Confused shopping cart and Game night

Last night I had to run to Target to return the cute shopping cart. There were wires crossed that Ryan discovered. If you pushed the circle it said "star." And, of course, if you pushed the star it said "circle." I don't think we need to confuse Caden. I was disappointed when I took it back because they didn't have any others on the shelf. I will have to check Appleton's Target when I go next. Here's a pic of him playing with it yesterday before I took it back.

Caden was trying to play with it when I was taking it. I felt a little bad about that. I told him it was "sick." Pretty sure he has already forgotten about it.

Here is a cute one of Caden. He is wearing a shirt that my mom got for him. He looks like he is coming after me!

Tonight we are having Game Night. We don't really have a theme for the food. I am just throwing a ham in the crock pot. Everyone loves ham, plus it won't heat up the house. It should be good.

I am trying to explore more crock pot recipes. That will save some time at night when I get home from school. I will need to start looking up some good recipes.

Here are some pics of Caden playing with his toys while I was cleaning a little.

He was trying to give me the red ball.

He really likes this toy. It is neat because he pushes the button and then the balls shoot up. Sometimes they shoot up so high he needs to crawl after them. It is pretty entertaining.
