{summer time hair cuts, parade, and time at home}

After a 10 mile run on Saturday morning with beautiful views:
I took the kids to get their hair cut. I got mine cut as well. Here are the before and after shots:

They are so darn cute! These hairdos show we are ready for summer!!! Bring it on :) We also stopped at Daddy's office for something. Check out Caden trying on some specs:
Caden and Ryan also marched in the Memorial Day parade yesterday with Caden's Boy Scout Pack. I didn't get a lot of pics. Here is the best I could do:
They aren't in this one, but you can see it's Pack 3609.
Can you see him? Blue scarf closest to the camera.

Here is one Ryan got of all of the boys:
Yesterday after the parade we didn't have anything else going on, and that was just wonderful. We stayed home and checked some things off of our to-do lists. We then ended the evening with watching a recorded episode of American Ninja Warrior. Doesn't get much better than that. Our little ninja Lilli's ankle is doing much better. We hope the healing continues!

Oh, and the birdies hatched in the bush in our backyard:
Until later!

{Green Bay Cellcom Marathon Relay recap}

Sunday was a great day. Weatherwise, not so much, but Ryan and I were part of a relay team for the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon:
It was so much fun to run with such great friends! This was the first time Ryan has done a larger run with me. Look how excited he was before the race:
We even got a message early that morning from two of our main cheerleaders:
They were hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa :) Here is how he felt after getting the pic from the kids:
Better, right?
The day started out pretty rainy, but it let up before Ryan and I had the third leg of the relay. It was great being able to do this together. Here are some other pics from the day:
We ran into some other Flowers while there :)
Ryan made the hand off to Matt.
Here is right after I made the hand off to Alexis. I was a little winded.
All the lovely ladies :)
Looking good with our medals :)
Ryan even agreed to run another relay with me in the fall :) See how happy he was after?
I hope this will be the next in many. I think he likes the hardware :)

Until later!

{sprained ankle=Lilli must slow down}

Lilli is well now and as goofy as ever, but that wasn't the case today at school. Let's start by going back to last week. :)She twisted her ankle last Monday, and we had been nursing it a little ever since. This included a wrap on it and some Ibuprofen. Of course she retwisted it today in gym. Lots of pain, swelling, a pretty shade of black and blue. Thankfully Grandma Pam was able to get her from school. I met them at the doctor, and he said it's a high ankle sprain. Out of soccer and gymnastics until next week at the earliest. Doctor's note for no gym through June 1st to be safe. If she's feeling better, he said soccer practice next Tuesday should be ok, but there should be no pain at that point. The trick will be to have her remember to take it easy. The girl does love her some cartwheels, and she wasn't pleased tonight when I told her not for a little awhile. I love this pic of her pointing out two of the things she can't do for a little bit:
Also, look at this sweet video message she received from some of her soccer teammates last night:

Love it!

{summer break countdowns}

We are getting really excited about summer in our house. I thought it would be fun to create a countdown craft this weekend with the kids. We have some time on Saturday, so I plan to take some time to make this with the kids:

Isn't it cute? It's from This Girl's Life. I have a ton of different colored paper scraps in my scrapbooking supplies, so I should have everything we need at home.  I also plan to have the kids fill out an end of year About Me for this year's scrapbook. I want to include things like their favorite book, TV show, movie, food. Things like that. Fun times!

Until later!

{Top Five Things No-Spend May Has Taught Me}

Almost being halfway through my no-spend month has already taught me a lot. Here are my top five things I've learned:

1. I think I may have an Amazon Prime addiction
Okay, not seriously, but I do order from there FAR too often, because it is so easy. I need to focus more on buying locally to support Oshkosh. Plus when buying locally means driving across town, you don't do it as often and instead clump your trips together. Delaying the trip also gives me time to rethink what I "need." Many times I am able to come up with something I already own that will work fine.

2. We have WAY MORE food in our house already than we think. We have only bought staples weekly since the beginning of the month. This includes milk, bananas (again, I love them a lot), eggs (lots of these), and yogurt and cheeses. We have eaten quite a few meals that were at the bottom of the deep freeze. I had no idea we have so much frozen chicken. Our deep freeze is FULL. Same thing with our cabinets. It was very obvious to me quickly that I hadn't really taken inventory of our stock for a LONG time. Everyone needs to do this every few months.

3. Buying does not make me happier. I don't really feel any different not buying as many things. In fact, I am loving checking our progress on the You Need A Budget website. There were quite a few charges that came through this month from the previous month (credit card bill with Florida tickets on it), but we are still doing fine. I have even made several Target trips and bought nothing other than what was on my list! I deserve a prize for that. I didn't feel sad when I walked out of the store. I kinda felt like I had won in a fight or something.

4. Go to the library:
Lilli was very disappointed when a show she likes (Good Luck, Charlie) was removed from Netflix. Really disappointed. My instinct was to go to Amazon to buy her a season or two. Instead...I went to the public library. And guess what? They had a DVD! This cost me nothing, and Lilli was thrilled. While I was there I also got a book on DVD for me for the car. Yes, I have an Audible account and don't plan to get rid of it (reading is a necessity for me), but this is another free way that I can listen to even more books during my time in the car. Grabbed a few other books for myself. Public libraries offer so much nowadays. Even free classes! Check out the Oshkosh Public Library's website to see what they have.

5. I have too much stuff. While I hate the word "stuff" and often won't allow my students to use it, it is the correct word in this instance. We have way more than we need. Not buying this month has taught me that not only do I not need more "stuff," but I also need to purge a lot of what we have. I could try to blame it all on kid things, but that's not the truth. I have too much, too. I was just looking at my shoes this morning and realized I only wear around 5 different pairs of shoes, yet I have A LOT more than that. My next goal is going to be to focus on getting rid of quite a bit of what we have. I will have the kids join me in this endeavor as well. I think they are beginning to realize they have too much, too.

Overall, we are doing pretty well with this no-spend thing. How is it going in your household?

{Happy Mother's Day to me!}

I had a great Mother's Day this year. It was pretty low-key (which is always nice), and it ended with a Mother's Day 5K run.

The fun really started yesterday when I was able to attend Muffins with Mom on Friday :) I wrote about that here. It was nice being able to attend one their school functions for a change.

Mother's Day morning started with the kids sharing their present they purchased for me at the Mother's Day Boutique at school. Lilli got me earrings and a beautiful necklace. Caden got me a great scrapbooking tool and also a #1 Mom keychain. They were very excited to give me what they had picked out on their own. Ryan also didn't listen to me and bought something as well. I love it so much, so I can't complain. He got me a little Harry Potter music box. Look how cute this is:
I love it!!!

We then went to church, and both kiddos participated in the church musical. Here is a pic I took while they were practicing right before church started:
Yes, you read that correctly. Lilli participated! Holy smokes.

After church we headed home, and then Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Chris, Cara, Jordon, and the kids headed over to our house for a Mother's Day brunch. The kids had a wonderful time playing with their cousins. The kids also enjoyed sharing their gifts they picked out for Grandma:
The weather was so gorgeous, so we headed outside to enjoy the sun. Later in the afternoon Ryan, the kids, and I rode our bikes to the PDS pad for the Mother's Day 5K. Steph organized this, and it was so much fun. Here are some highlight pics:
Lilli and I planted a bulb:
Overall, it was a great day :) I am a very lucky person with a wonderful family.

{Lilli's first soccer game}

As I mentioned yesterday, Lilli played in her first soccer game yesterday!!! I was so proud. She still has more to learn, but she got out there :) Here are some pics:
Warming up

A little more warming up with Coach Mau
She is the one with the green socks. She is right in the middle in the pic below:
Here is one of my favorite pics (below) that doesn't do the scene justice. Caden picked some flowers to give Lilli after the game. He was quite excited to give them to her:
A pic from the cheering section of Stella and Kenzi:
Let's hope she continues to love it!

{muffins with mom }

I was very lucky to be able to attend Muffins with Mom with the children this year. Usually I am not able to attend most functions at their school, but I was able to make it work with this one :) I baked my own muffins the night before so I could eat them. I used this recipe from Your Party...Tuned Up I found on Pinterest:
The only change I made was subbing in dried blueberries for fresh. I used 1/2 cup of the dried berried. I knew that there would be no gluten-free options, and I wanted to be able to eat with the kids, too. Overall, the event was such a success! The kids had a great time. Here are some pics:
I love the sheets they filled out for me, too:
Notice that Caden made me a year younger? Smart boy :)
The other great thing about today is Lilli had her first soccer game and SHE PLAYED! I was so worried she wouldn't. I will share pics tomorrow!

Until later!
