Caden the Daredevil

This is the "trick" Ryan likes to do with Caden. The first time he did it I about had a heart attack. I was ragging on Ryan to stop when I noticed the big smile on Caden's face. The little man loves it! Although it is not a mommy approved activity, Ryan will only do it over the bed or the couch.

Meeting Drew and Cara Scare

Last week was pretty great since Caden got to meet his little cousin. Ryan and Caden picked me up from work on Friday and we went right to Madison. We got there around 5:45 and stayed until 7:30ish. We just wanted to make sure we got to see Drew. Ryan was scheduled to attend a continuing ed conference all day in Madison on Saturday, and I had an ACT prep class to teach in Ripon. Friday was our best bet to get to Madison. Here are some pics from our visit:

Here is Drew!

The proud uncle.

Gee Golly being an older cousin is the coolest!

The happy aunts

Saturday morning is pretty much a blur. We got a phone call from Pam saying that Cara was in the emergency room becuase she was hemorraghing. It took us all of two seconds to decide we needed to go to Madison to look after Drew while everyone else was with Cara at the hospital. Ramona, Jordon's grandma, luckily was staying with them still, so she watched Drew until we got there. I think she was pretty happy to see us! We had a pretty good time with him. Here are some pics:

Take a snooze

Getting his clothes changes...and still taking a snooze!

I am happy to say that everything worked out well with Cara. She was released from the hospital Sunday evening. But this was after an emergency surgery and a couple blood transfusions. She wouldn't be Cara if she didn't keep us on our toes! She and Drew had appointments and they both received clean bills of health. Hallelujah!

Sunday was relatively boring compared to Saturday. We went to Appleton because I wanted to hit Archivers. Alexis came with us since she had never been. I'm not sure how that is even possible! I am pretty sure she will be returning. I got quite a bit of paper for my 365 Days of Caden album. I started working on it Sunday night; it is actually being put together now! Yay!

I also got my hair colored and cut on Sunday. It was only a glaze, so my hair is just a little darker but a lot shinier. As far as the cut, I'm still not sure what I want to do, so I just had Catie trim it. If anyone has suggestions about the do, I am open to hearing them!

Sunday was also my grandma's birthday, so I got to talk with her for a little bit. We already have her present, so I will be taking it with me to Toledo when I go this Saturday. I hope she likes it!

Monday was a great day because I used one of my maternity days and stayed home with Caden. We had a great time. He is really starting to play more, so it was fun. I also had a doctor's appointment to check my thyroid. When I got home today there was a message for me to call them, so I wonder if my levels have changed. It would explain why I am always tired...or could that be because I have a 5 month old? I have to call tomorrow to find out what is going on with that.

Tonight was bath night for Caden. Today was the first time we put him back in the big tub since he was less than a month old. I also realized that if I flipped him around in the tub he could sit up better. It is amazing what reading does for you! Here is a pic from his bath tonight:

This Saturday, as I said before, Caden and I will be heading to Toledo. We will stay until Wednesday. Then we will come home and use Thursday to get ready for our trip to Florida. We leave early Friday morning for Florida. We have a flight out of Appleton. We will be staying in Florida to visit with Mom and Bill until Saturday, April 11th. I hope we get to see Mom. I know she will be working every day, so I'm sure we will probably end up having to spend some time at the store to see her. Ryan and I are renting a car, so we will probably head out on our own some of time. I was thinking it would be fun to go to the zoo since it isn't warm enough here to do that. Plus that would make for some cute pics of Caden!

Meet Drew!

Here is the pic that Pam sent to me! Look at those cheeks!

Welcome Andrew James Bricco!

Well, Cara and Jordon did end up have a St. Patrick's Day baby. Drew was born late last night at 11:40. He is 8 pounds and 6 ounces. I think Pam said he was 21 1/2 inches long, but I will double check that.

Caden is overjoyed to have a little cousin to get into trouble with!

Both baby and mom are doing well. I will update with pics as soon as I get them! Congrats Cara and Jordon!

Also, Caden slept completely through the night last night. He went to bed at 9:15 or 9:30, and I woke him up at 6:30! Woohoo!

Happy St. Patrick's Day and Cletus is coming!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone! Today was a pretty good day. I swear that I have never seen as many people wear green on St. Patrick's Day as I did today. It was great! Even Caden dressed up for the occasion. Here are some pics:

Ryan and I are waiting for a call from Pam to tell us what is happening with Cara. She went in today to be induced at 11:30 am. As of about 10 pm she was 9 centemeters dilated and progressing. That is what the "Cletus" reference is in the title of this post. She and Jordon have referred to the baby for the majority of the pregnancy as Cletus the Fetus. I can't wait to find out if it is a boy or a girl! I will be making a stop tomorrow at Carter's Outlet. We will be going to meet the baby this weekend. We would love to go before then, but by the time Ryan would finish at the office we wouldn't get there until 8 pm and then just have to turn around to come back! I can't wait to hold the little one. And Caden is very excited to meet his new cousin! I will update my blog as soon as I get the news of the arrival!

This past weekend was pretty productive. Ryan got the duplex pretty much ready to go again. We just need to get the carpets professionally cleaned still. We are still keeping our fingers crossed that the carpets are salvagable. I'm not too sure... I will have to have Ryan takes some new pics of the place so you can see how well it cleaned up.

We also got the basement cleaned this weekend. Now we will be able to organize the office in the basement. I am chomping at the bit to get my scrapbooking area put together. I really want to put my Project 365 Album together. I have been putting my photos and journal entries all together, so I am ready to go! My goal is to have all of January and February put together before I go to Toledo.

Caden and I will be making that trek on the 29th of March until the 1st of April: Sunday to Wednesday. It should be fun. We then will have to get ready for Florida. Since Danny isn't coming (he has a presentation the week we will be gone), Ryan and I decided that we are going to fly. It wasn't cheap, but we think it will be a lot easier with Caden to just fly. I hope he does well on the plane. If anyone has tips about that I would love them! We are flying out Friday, April 3rd and coming back Saturday, April 11th. We are excited to see everyone.

In other exciting news, Caden has started eating veggies. We started him off with peas on Monday. He wasn't to keen on them. He even made a "yuck" kinda noise and stuck out his tongue. It was still pretty cute to see him with the green on his face. Here are a couple pics:

Today was exciting for me because I got to go pick up my cap, gown, and hood for graduation. The countdown is on. I graduate on May 16th! I don't know what I will do with all of my free time!

Danny has been hanging around with his friend Sam quite often. She is cute as a button, over 21, and doesn't smoke. This is already a major improvement! The one downfall is that she has a boyfriend. He insists that they are just friends. He usually hangs out with her and her best friend. Sometimes the boyfriend comes too. She is constantly calling Danny though. I wouldn't be surprised if she dumps the boyfriend in the near future. She seems like a nice girl, I just don't want my brother jerked around. I will keep you updated. I will also try to get a picture. I'm not sure how I will do it, but I will try!

Finally I have to talk about how wonderful the weather has been the last two days. It has been so nice getting to go outside without a huge coat. Today we were out walking with Caden and the dogs and Ryan took a pic. This is shortly before Caden feel asleep. The fresh air is too much for the little guy! He is sporting the hat that his Aunt Diane got for him. Too cute!

Have a great week, and I will update about Cara as soon as I receive word.

Mom update!

I just wanted to give everyone an update about my mom. I talked with Bill this afternoon after she had her upper GI. They found multiple ulcers that had been bleeding. The doctor said it looks like they are already healing. They think it was aspirin induced. I am sure the stress didn't help matters either. It also looks to be non-cancerous, which makes all of us very happy. She will be staying another night in the hospital still. She needs to have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I'm sure that will be fun! So I am very relieved.

I had people at school on stand by. I just wanted them to know that if it turned out not to be an ulcer, I was going to have to take a leave in order to travel to Florida. I am very happy it turned out well. I am also glad that we will be traveling to Florida at the beginning of April to visit.

I will update if I hear anything else.

Duplex drama and sick mom

It seems like last week is a blur. School went well. Both classes ended units: the non-fiction unit for English 9 and Ordinary People in my REACH classes. Now this week we are beginning the research paper in my English 9 classes. That is probably my least favorite unit to teach. It has to be so precise and picky. A lot of times it is like pulling teeth to get them to turn in every part of the paper since I require the first draft, second draft, works cited... It is going to be a long unit!

The weekend went pretty quickly since the majority of the weekend was devoted to getting the duplex ready to rent again. The last tenant on the lower level just wreaked havoc on the place. Here is one of the pics:

Notice the shavings still on the carpet!

Ryan, Dick, and Danny did a good job getting it to look good again. They had to sand the crap out of the doors. The look a little distressed, but they still look good. We still need to get the carpets professionally cleaned, but it looks better. I will have to take some new pics and show you how well it turned out. Our next step is going to be to sell the place. We are seeing if Adam, our upstairs tenant, wants to purchase the place. Keep your fingers crossed.

Friday night we had some excitement. Ryan and I went to bed, but Danny stayed up a little later. Somehow the front door was unlocked, I swear I checked that it was locked before I went to bed, and someone walked into the house. Yes, he walked into the house. Luckily Bentley chased him out. Danny heard the front door open so he came upstairs to see what was going on. He yelled to the guy in the front yard. Our living room light was on, so we figure he thought there was a party here. There were a lot of cars on the street, so we think someone was out of town and the kids decided to throw a party. We ended up filing a police report, but they didn't find the guy. He didn't touch or take anything, but it is still creepy. Ryan bought one of those metal bar locks to add to the front door! Don't worry Grandma, I now always go up to the door and physically relock it!

My mom is giving us all a scare right now. I talked with her yesterday. She explained that she went to the walk in clinic because she hasn't been feeling well. They found out that she is severely anemic. She had an appointment scheduled today with her regular doctor. She was admitted to the hospital because they found that she only had 1/3 of the blood in her body that is needed. She was getting a transfusion tonight. The blood loss is due to internal bleeding. They need to figure out what is going on. We are all hoping that it is a bleeding ulcer. I have been waiting by my phone for an update, but so far no news. She was in good spirits when I spoke with her tonight. She's a trooper. I will update the blog when I get more information.

To end on a good note, Cara is due in one week! Ryan and I are very excited to meet our little niece or nephew, as is Caden. He can't wait to play! If she hasn't had the baby by the 17th, they will induce her on that day. We are all hoping that she goes into labor on the 17th without an induction. Good luck Cara!

Here are some other cute pics from last week:

Have a good week!

The Flu and Cereal!

It seems like time is flying! Last week went pretty well with Caden going to either Nicole or Linda. It didn't take too long to get into the groove of things. I now know what time I need to be up to get everything set, and also what I need to do the night before in order for things to run smoothly. I think we have our system nailed down. Ryan drops him off every day, and I pick him up. Pam is helping on Thursdays when I have RAP (It stands for something like Ripon Area Professional... something. It is a meeting after school). She picks him up on those days and brings him to the house. It is nice not having to rush.

On Thursday and Friday morning I had parent teacher conferences at school. Not too eventful. Both days combined I had four parents come to see me. And yes, as you guessed, not the parents I needed to see. I was able to get the book New Moon finished, my quizzes graded, and my lessons written for this week. So I did get quite a bit accomplished.

Friday was what Ryan and I were really excited about. We headed to Minnesota for the Chicago reunion! Glen, Liz, Avery, and Peterson babies A and B were also going to be at Joel and Mindi's. Well, things didn't turn out to be as great as we had hoped. On the way there Ryan started out feeling great. He had a cold, as did Caden, but no big deal. About an hour and a half into the trip he got a really bad sinus headache. We stopped to pick up something for him at Target. About two hours after that he started to feel nauseous, but again we weren't too worried because that happens sometimes with sinus issues. Once we crossed into Minnesota he threw up. I pulled over at a gas station to throw away the bag and get him some water. I thought we should turn back, but he felt better. He figured it was food poisoning, but we couldn't figure out from where. So we continued on our way. When we finally got there he still felt pretty rough and slept the majority of the night. (We got there at 6 pm.) He ended up getting sick one more time. We all still figured he had food poisoning. That opinion changed Saturday morning.

I woke up with a sore throat, but then quickly realized my stomach was upset. The rest of the day I was out of commission. I ended up getting sick 5 times! Lucky me! Ryan called Danny to see how he was, and he was also sick when Ryan was. We figure we had to have caught something from Caden. He is the only the we all have in common. No matter where it was from, I'm just glad it is gone! The only good part from the whole episode is that I lost the rest of my baby weight on the flu diet.

Here are some pics from the good parts of the trip:

Time with Aunt Liz.

Caden with his lady Olivia

Hello!

All the lovely children: Olivia, Ella, Avery, and Caden

Yesterday Caden had his four month check. He is doing very well. He is 13 lbs. 11 ounces and 25 3/4 inches tall. He is at the 70th percentile for height and only the 25th percentile for weight. He is a tall lean guy. The nurse practitioner also said he could start eating rice cereal. He is hitting all of the marks he should be. He started to roll from his stomach to his back yesterday. He also is gabbing up a storm. Ryan and I recorded both of these, and I plan to put it up on the blog to show everyone. We need to still get the video camera software loaded on the Mac, so I will have that up next week. It is pretty cute.

Here are some pics of Caden and his cereal:

This looks pretty good...

I'm still not to sure how my mouth works!

I hope everyone's week is great!
