Already slacking...Here Comes Grandma!

I'm starting to slip!!! I need to remember my resolution to keep this blog updated. I think I will do what Nicole does, and I will update every Monday. So I guess that means I will be posting again tomorrow. First I will get you up to speed.

I will be adding some pics tomorrow to cover the last week and a half. Saturday, January 17th we had the office holiday party at our house. There was an ugly sweater contest, and there were some pretty ugly sweaters. I went to Goodwill and got some sweaters for Ryan and me to wear. (Yes, me is correct in this sentence.) Danny's "friend" Tahja came as well. I will add a picture tomorrow. I'm not sure if they are technically dating, that's why I didn't put girlfriend. I try not to pry. She sure is here a lot for someone who is not dating him... I will keep you updated about this drama.

Caden was passed from person to person for most of the night. He did a great job. He even took a snooze with his grandpa.

The following week was a little sad for me, as it was my last full week at home with Caden. I tried to enjoy every minute with him. It ended up being a very cold week. In fact, all of the schools in the area were closed both Thursday and Friday. It is nice for me when school is closed, because those days do not come out of my maternity leave days since I wouldnt' be at school anyway. So I ended up with four extra days! Yay!

On Friday Ryan and I met the woman who will be taking care of Caden when Nicole is working. Did I explain that Nicole will be watching Caden? If not I will detail that later. Just add a comment if I didn't. Anyway... Jeanette is very nice and her place couldn't be in a more convenient location for me. She is honestly about a minute and a half from the high school. She takes care of Nicole and Andrew's little Mads, so I know she does a good job. We were impressed by how organized she was. It is a weight off of my chest knowing that Caden will be taken care of by a competent person.

I had a Master's class on Saturday. I only have three left! I graduate on May 16th, and yes I am starting to count the days. It will nice to have all of my Saturdays free again. After my class ended Ryan, Danny and I ran some errands. When I got home I spent the evening making Thank You cards for Cara to use. Once I finally figured out how to get the Cricut to cut the correct size it wasn't too bad. The shower is next Saturday so it is crunch time.

Today I worked on my final projects for my Master's program. The end is near! My goal was to complete all of the work before I go back to school, but I don't think I am going to hit that goal. I will definitely be able to finish this week.

The great news is that Grandma is coming tomorrow. Caden and I are going to Chicago to get her from Union Station. She will be staying with us until February 21st. She is riding the Megabus. I am so happy she is coming. It is going to be very hard for me to leave Caden on Tuesday to go to work, but knowing that he is with Grandma makes me feel better. I'm pretty sure I will still cry. :-(

Next year will be better. I have already talked with my principal, and I will not be full time next year. We still have to work out the details, but I will end my day at either 12:30 or 1:30 at the latest. I am excited because I feel that this will give me the best of both worlds. I think I am very lucky. I will update when I get the details about this arrangement. I am happy that my district is willing to work with me.

Visit to Minnesota and then Cold! Cold! Cold!

Well we had a great time in Minnesota. It did end up to be a very short trip. We left Ripon at around 12:30. I stayed long enough to get the description about all of the remaining projects I will have to complete before I graduate MAY 16th!!!! The end is finally near!!! Anyway... we made the trek to Minnesota. We got there around 5:15 I think. We only had to stop once for Caden to eat. He slept the entire way. We went directly to Joel and Mindi's since there was a dinner reservation for 6:30. Mindi and I had to hold each other's baby, so here is a pic:

The babies even "danced" as I serenaded them with "I've had the time of my life." They also had in depth conversations about the Vikings and the Packers:

Of course it was the daddies who decided to add the beer!

After dinner we headed to Sara and Mike's since it was about 30 minutes away. We didn't know how Caden would sleep that night since he slept for the majority of the day. He fell asleep around 10:30ish and he didn't wake up again to eat until 6:30. We couldn't believe it! Obviously sleeping so much made him very tired.

The next day we spent a little time in the morning with Sara, Mike, and Maddie before we headed back to Apple Valley. We had some time since Olivia's baptism was not until 1:00. We also needed time to stop at Target so Ryan could buy a razor and dress shoes. This is what happens when I do not pack for him!

The baptism was very nice. Here is a picture from it:

Caden had a little bit of a meltdown toward the end. Joel and Mindi's friend Susan held him for us since we were by Olivia. Caden had messed his diaper, so of course he freaked out. That little guy does not like a dirty butt!

After the baptism we headed back to Joel and Mindi's for some cake. It was delicious! We were back on the road for Oshkosh by 4 pm. We didn't want to leave too late because it would through off Caden's schedule we thought. He ended up sleeping well Sunday night also.

The new week brought a lot of cold weather. The snow seems to have stopped for awhile, but it is really cold. It didn't get too bad until today, but first I need to mention yesterday.

Ryan and I went for our first Date Night. We dropped Caden off to Pam and Dick around 6:20 pm and then we headed to the Water City Grill. We didn't know it, but Wednesday is Steak Night. They have an awesome steak for $7.99. We both ordered it and loved it. It was nice sitting and talking with just the two of us. I will admit that a lot of our conversation ended up going back to Caden, but we had a great time. We plan to keep going on Date Night every other Wednesday. We will most likely switch up the restaurant, but that $7.99 steak is a really good deal.

Today, as I mentioned before, was the first day of really cold weather. The high as -5 degrees, and the windchill hit 45 below zero! Pretty much every school in the area was closed. Tomorrow is supposed to be cold as well. They already canceled school in most districts. Ripon is closed again, so that means I now have four extra days of my maternity leave. I won't take them right away, but it is great that I get them.

Since it has been so cold Caden and I have stayed at home. We have found quite a few things to do. Here he is playing the piano:

And here he is working with his language flashcards he got from his Aunt Cara:

He has been a busy boy!

I also finished and mailed the invites to Caden's baptism. Here is how they turned out:

Thank you to Linda and Pam for helping me finish these!

Tomorrow I plan to clean the house since the office Holiday party is going to be here on Saturday. I will be a busy girl tomorrow! Wish me luck!

A Sense of Accomplishment!

Before I write about the invitations, I need to wish my little Ella a Happy Birthday! Today she is four years old! What a big girl! I also want to add a Happy Birthday to my step-mom Andrea. She had her day yesterday, but unfortunately had a migraine. I hope she is feeling better today.

Well, the invitations to Cara's shower are not only finished, they have been mailed! They took a lot longer than I thought they would. I think they turned out to be pretty cute. Alexis came over Wednesday night with her Cricut, so we got everything cut that night. I was up later than I should have been, but I only wanted to have to construct them on Thursday. Pam also came over Wednesday night to watch the little guy while we worked. Here is what the invitation looks like. I took a few shots so that you can see the entire card:

My plan is to have Caden's baptism cards mailed Tuesday. I will be making them most likely on Monday. I can't do them this weekend since we will be out of town. We are going to Minnesota tomorrow. I have my Master's class, but the professor is going to let me leave early. We hope to be on the road by noon. We figure it should take about 6 hours to get there since we will have to stop to feed Caden. I can definitely see the benefit to formula and bottles!
We are heading to Minnesota for Olivia Sollom's baptism. She is also known as Caden's future wife, even though she is older. Well, I don't know if a few days really makes her an older woman...baby. Ryan and I are lucky enough to be her Godparents, so of course we wouldn't want to miss the big day! I am sure we will be having a good time. I will make sure to take plenty of pictures.

I am pleased to say that I have been taking my pics every day for the Project 365 Album. I may need to post some of them to have people vote on which picture to include for the day. There are a couple of days where I took a few cute pictures and I can't decide which one to use. I guess that is what you have to go through when you have such a cute kid!

Visiting Friends and Invitations

Today Caden made a trip with mommy to my high school. He got to see some of my students and some of my teacher/staff friends. He was a good boy. He slept at first of course, but after about 15 minutes he was awake and smiling at people. My favorite part of the visit was when we were in the main office. The secretary was making the announcements over the intercom and Caden started to cry because I was strapping him back into his car seat. Rick Bunge, the assistant principal, crouched in front of Caden and said, "Hey kid. You need to be quiet so she can do the announcements." Caden stopped crying and stared at Rick with big eyes. It was hilarious! I told Rick I would have to program his cellphone number into my phone so that I can call him whenever Caden cries.

When I got home I worked on items for Cara's shower. I got the rest of the envelopes addressed and the design of the card finished. I am going to Appleton tomorrow to get the rest of the paper that I need. Alexis is coming over after work with her Cricut. We figure we can get the work finished pretty quickly with two Cricuts going.

Tomorrow Caden has a doctor's appointment. I am anxious to see how much he weighs and where he is as far as the percentages go. When he went in for his immunizations a couple of weeks ago he was about 12 pounds, so I imagine he is still about the same. I will have to update tomorrow with the new stats. He is definitely a big boy!

Ryan and I were originally planning to have a date night tomorrow evening. We decided we need to go out to dinner just the two of us every other Wednesday. Pam said she would be able to watch Caden. I didn't have to twist her arm at all! This week we may have to make it a Thursday date night if I don't have the invitations finished. We are still not sure where we will be going, but I am looking forward to it. Gotta keep the romance alive!

A New Year Continues

In efforts to keep to my word about keeping my blog updated, and also so Andrew won't give me crap about not updating my blog, I decided to tell you what's happened in the last couple of days

New Year's Day was really fun since we didn't have anything that we needed to do. I love days when you don't have to set an alarm clock. Not that we can really sleep in anymore. We have a little Caden alarm clock now. We really just hung around the house for the day. Here was Caden working with mommy on his ability to stand:
Ryan had some fun with Caden while he was napping as you can see from this picture. It looks like he had a little too much fun the night before. I told him we should have put sparkling juice in his arm instead of champagne. It is a pretty funny picture:

Last night Andrew, Nicole, Maddie, and Alexis came over to play some board games. Well, Maddie didn't really play the board games. She did, however, enjoy trying to find as many buttons to push as possible. It was cute. We ended up playing balderdash, Cranium, and Trivial Pursuit. We stayed up way too late. We will all, however, never forget the meaning of jubate, or the incorrect meaning of shirty.

Danny started the game with us, but he took his leave once Tahja, his girlfriend, got to our house. Yes, you heard me correctly. Danny is dating a nice young lady named Tahja. It is short for Anastasha. I am not sure how she spells her full name, but I know she is Tahja for short. We don't know her too well yet, but she seems pretty nice. She came over tonight and Danny cooked dinner. Ryan, Caden, and I were out of the house at a dinner at Jay and Linda's. Danny cooked Tilapia for her. She is a vegetarian who eats fish. I will try to see if I can get a picture of the two love birds to post. To hold you off for now I can tell you that she is a little shorter than Danny, has blond hair, is pretty thin, and is cute. I will keep you updated.

I went to Archiver's today to buy the supplies to make the invites for Caden's baptism. It will be my first time using my Cricut, so I am excited. I hope to start them tomorrow. The baptism is going to be February 1st, so I need to get them done. Ryan's aunt Linda is going to help me finish them next week sometime.

I also need to work on the shower invites for Cara's baby shower. It is going to be January 31st. I will also be using the Cricut for this. I have the wording down, but I need to figure out what paper I am going to use. I didn't find anything at Archiver's that stood out to me. I will have to keep looking.

I also want to congratulate my cousin Jenni on the birth of her son Christopher Michael. He was born on the 31st. He is a little peanut and was only 5 pounds 8 ounces at birth. When I talked with Grandma today she told me he is down to 5 pounds 2 ounces. He is a full three pounds smaller than Caden was! I can't even imagine. I am off to the Carter Outlet store to pick up some Preemie outfits for the little guy. Both baby and mom are still in the hospital, but we hope they will be home in the next couple days.

My cousin Nikki has also been going through a lot lately healthwise. She is constantly in my thoughts! We are all hoping to get good news for her soon as she sees a specialist.

That's it for now!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year wishes to all! I thought I should start the New Year off correctly by sticking to my word that I would start to keep up with my blog.

As my email explained, I changed the domain name for the blog. Ryanandbarby.blogspot.com didn't seem to fit anymore with the arrival of the little guy. I first thought I would just add his name, but then I realized we will probably just have to add another name in a couple years. I figured happyamesfamily was a good fit. That definitely describes us.

You may also notice that my blog is now "pimped out." A big thank you goes out to Nicole for that. She showed me how to everything new that you see. My favorite part is the little tracker on the top that shows how old Caden is.

Last night we had friends over to help us ring in the New Year. Alexis, Angie, Bruce, Kaiya, Andrew, Nicole, and Mads were all there. Danny celebrated with us for the majority of the night:

Our friend Courtney also came with his daughter Aurora and his new girlfriend Erin who brought her three kids.

We had a good time, although Ryan and I both admitted we have had more fun in the past. I think the big issue was that not everyone was able to come (Sean had the flu), and it also stunk that Andrew, Nicole, and Mads couldn't come until later in the evening.

Alexis came early in the day yesterday to help get things set up. That was a huge help. She helped a lot by watching Caden while I got the food ready. Danny was also a big help in this area as you can see from the picture.

Pam was also a big help. She came the day before to watch Caden while I sorted Christmaspresents and started to clean the house. Here is the little man taking a snooze on Grandma:

The evening consisted of eating, talking, eating, playing with the Wii (mainly Mario Kart, eating, and watching the ball drop. Here I am pretending to enjoy the taste of champagne:

After almost everyone left was when Nicole gave me my blogger crash course. I am so excited to actually have a decent looking blog!

Danny and I had a discussion about our New Year's Resolutions. I thought I should list them below, so I may be a little more likely to follow through since everyone will know them.

New Year's Resolutions

  • Lose the last of the baby weight

  • Run a half marathon (I start training at the end of this month)

  • Read more for fun (Thank you to Alexis for lending me the Stephenie Meyer series)

  • Start contributing as much as possible to our retirement funds

  • Create a Project 365 Album

  • Be a smarter shopper when it comes to sales and coupons (If anyone has any tips please share!)

  • Establish a cleaning schedule for the house (With the little guy it is a lot harder to get my cleaning done!)

I am sure I will be adding more items to this list as the year progresses. What are your resolutions?
